ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (2-6, 2-3 GLIAC) lost 74-58 on Saturday at Grand Valley State (9-2, 3-2 GLIAC) to begin 2016. The Warriors entered the weekend winners of two straight prior to the holiday break.
HOW IT HAPPENED- GVSU took an early 7-2 lead with Zach West draining a three-pointer to start the run. Sophomore
Ronald Booth (Detroit, Mich. / Consortium) made two free throws to decrease the Laker lead to three (7-4) at the 15:55 mark of the first half. At the 12-minute mark, the Warriors pulled within three (11-8) after a bucket from sophomore
Marcus Moore (Lansing, Mich. / Waverly).
- The Lakers increased their lead to seven (17-10) on a jumper by Trevin Alexander. Midway through the first half, a layup from sophomore
Tristan Wilson (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Skyline) trimmed GVSU's lead to five.
- With 5:44 left in the first half, sophomore
Chuck Key (Detroit, Mich. / Cass Tech) knocked down back-to-back jumpers to pull the Warriors within three (23-20). Grand Valley State answered offensively going on a 14-9 run to lead 37-29 after 20 minutes of play.
- Wayne State started the second half with a basket from junior
Clark Bishop (Detroit, Mich. / Renaissance), but the Lakers pulled away on a 22-11 spurt in a nearly 11-minute span. The Warriors pulled within eight (61-53) with six points coming off free throws, five from Booth.
- GVSU went on a 13-5 run to finish the game with five points coming from Luke Ryskamp.
WARRIOR PLAYER STATS- Booth led the Warriors with 22 points, while Moore and Key both tallied eight points apiece and junior
Michael Lewis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) added six points.
- Moore grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, and Key pulled down six boards.

John Draper (Dayton, Ohio / Eastmoor Academy) and Moore each dished out two assists, while Booth notched two steals.
WARRIOR TEAM STATS- Wayne State shot 30.9 percent (17-55) from the field, and were 3-for-14 (21.4 percent) from beyond the arc.
- WSU shot 21-of-31 (61.7 percent) from the charity stripe, 10-for-12 were contributed by Booth.
LEADING THE OPPOSITION - Ryskamp led three Lakers in double-digits scoring 15 points.
- Chaz Rollins recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Zach West added 10 points.
UP NEXT - The Warriors travel to Big Rapids, Mich. to take on Ferris State on Sunday inside Jim Wink Arena. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. following the women's basketball contest. WSU lost to the Bulldogs, 85-69, last season.
