Oilers Dominate Pioneers In Doubleheader Sweep

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay softball team hosted a doubleheader against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Malone University, which took place on Saturday, April 18 at Anderson Field.  The Oilers won the first game 8-5 and then won the second game 7-3.  The doubleheader sweep gives the Oilers a 21-15 record on the season, which includes a 9-6 record in GLIAC play. 

In the first game, Chelsea McManaway picked up the victory on the mound, which is her eleventh win on the season for the Oilers.  She gave up four hits and struck out nine batters in six innings. 

The Oilers were down 3-2 as they headed to the bottom of the fifth inning.  The Oilers were able to produce a strong scoring spree in the inning by adding six runs on the board which proved to be a big help towards their 8-5 victory. 

Abby Funk helped lead the offense for the Oilers as she finished the game with a triple, a single and three runs batted in.  Megan Turner finished the game with a single and a double. 

Lauren Trumpler finished the game with two singles and one run scored while Katie Dunphy added a double, one run scored and one run batted in. 

In the second game, Jenna Inman picked up the victory on the mound for the Oilers as she gave up two earned runs and struck out one batter in four innings of work. 

In the top of the second inning the Oilers bats caught on fire as they went on a massive scoring spree similar to the first game to give them a 7-1 lead early in the contest.  The second inning scoring bender proved to be too much for Malone to handle as the Oilers cruised to an 8-3 victory for the doubleheader sweep. 

Meredith Shepherd helped lead the offense for the Oilers as she finished the game with a two RBI double.  Hayley Apple also helped lead the offense for the Oilers as she blasted a two RBI double. 

Katie Dunphy finished the game with a triple, a single, one run scored and one run batted in.

Megan Turner finished the game with two singles, one run scored and one run batted in while Lauren Trumpler also finished the game with two singles, one run scored and one run batted in.    

The Oilers return to the field on Sunday, April 19 as they host GLIAC rival Walsh University in a doubleheader, which will take place at Anderson Field.
