DETROIT, Mich. – The Wayne State University women's tennis team (11-3 overall) kicked off the spring portion of its 2017-18 campaign on Wednesday, defeating guest Lawrence Tech (4-4 overall) at the Multipurpose Indoor Facility on Wednesday.

Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) and freshman
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) were all double-winners in the event.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Kuznetsova and Da-Silva paired up in the first doubles flight, winning 8-6 over Sabrina Mateos and Anusha Varudandi. At the No. 2 pairing, Mitrache and Ghellere won 8-4 against Carolyn McCullen and Samantha Kohn. In the final flight, Liong and freshman
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julianne) won 8-2 over Maria Alvarez and Caroline Harpaintner.
SINGLES RESULTS
Mitrache was a winner over Varudandi in the first flight (6-1, 6-2). Kuznetsova won 4-6, 6-1, 10-2 over Harpaintner at No. 2, followed by a 3-0 advantage for Da-Silva at No. 3 before Mateos retired.
In the fourth flight, Ghellere defeated Kohn 6-0, 6-2. WSU got two more wins thanks to Liong topping McCullen and junior
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont. / St. Anne's S.S.) winning 6-0, 6-3 over Alvarez.
