Dragons dominate Southern Indiana

The Tiffin University volleyball team took 2 of 3 matches at the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament, sweeping the University of Southern Indiana in their final match of the tournament.

In the 1st set, Tiffin built an early lead, and played add on throughout. The Dragons, leading 15-7, used a 7-3 run to put the Eagles down 22-10, but Southern Indiana kept the set interesting, forcing Tiffin to take a timeout with a four point run late. The Dragons regrouped and finished the set with an Olivia Cobb kill to win 25-18.

Tiffin kept the accelerator down in set two, jumping out to a 13-5 lead. Southern Indiana didn't go quietly, closing the gap to 21-17 with an 8-2 run. With the Eagles closing in, Tiffin found a way to escape, finishing the set on a 3-0 march to a 25-20 win.

The final set was tight early, but the Dragons found some breathing room, thanks to a 4-0 run to lead 16-10. The Eagles continued to claw their way back every time it looked like the Dragons had the set under control. The final point came courtesy of Jenna Huffman, slamming her 8th kill of the contest, preserving a 25-20 set win.

As a team, Tiffin had a very good day at the net, hitting .375 over the three set match and committing only 11 attack errors. Defensively, the Dragons were dominant, accounting for 13 total blocks.

Individually, Olivia Cobb continued to impress, smacking 10 kills and committing only two attack errors. In the three matches at the tournament, Cobb accounted for 44 kills, 30% of the Dragons kills as a team. Emily Weithman played a solid contest, collecting 37 assists, and Taylor Lattimore finished with 19 digs.

The Dragons, having won 3 of their last 4 games, move to 12-9 overall. Tiffin will remain out of conference with their next opponent, traveling to Cedarville University on October 18.
