Women's Basketball Defeats Notre Dame College, 91-50

12 different Warriors score.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's basketball squad (6-5 overall, 2-2 GLIAC) defeated Notre Dame College (6-5 overall, 4-2 MEC), 91-50, at home on Wednesday evening.

In a back-and-forth start, there were three lead changes in the first 90 seconds, before NDC took an 8-5 lead on a jumper by Katie Karalic.  Over the next 6:30, the Warrior defense limited the Falcons to just one free throw, while outscoring the guests 19-1 to take a 24-9 lead with 2:33 remaining in the opening stanza.  Six different WSU players scored led by junior Alex Matus (Millbury, Ohio / Toledo Central Catholic) with a pair of triples.

In a change of momentum, Notre Dame went on a 7-0 run to end the frame, then scored the first four points of the second quarter to cut the Wayne State margin to four (24-20) as the Warriors went over four minutes without a point.  The four point advantage for WSU would be its smallest for the rest of the game.

Wayne State concluded the first half on a 17-8 spurt.  Junior Lyndsey Matus (Millbury, Ohio / Toledo Central Catholic) drained two three-pointers in the final 3:30, while classmate Nastassja Chambers (Ypsilanti, Mich. / Arbor Prep) started the run with a pair of buckets.

The Warriors led 41-28 at intermission thanks to 6-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc and a 18-7 advantage in bench scoring.  Freshman Grace George (DeWitt, Mich.) had a team-high eight points at halftime, while NDC's Seina Adachi had a game-best 13 points after 20 minutes.

Notre Dame's Adachi and Kyleigh Ramlow each scored a bucket within the first minute of the third period to trim the WSU advantage to nine (41-32).  That would be the last time Wayne State's lead was under double digits as the Warriors would score the next 13 points during a six-minute span.  WSU led 58-41 after three periods, then proceeded to score the first nine points of the fourth quarter to lead by 26 (67-41) with 8:16 left.

Over the final eight minutes, Wayne State outscored the guests 24-9 for the 91-50 victory.
