Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to No. 13 GVSU

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Michigan Tech volleyball played its final road match of the regular season at No. 13-ranked Grand Valley State today and lost 3-0 to the host Lakers, who are undefeated in GLIAC play. Set scores were 25-23, 25-13 and 25-17.

Tech had a really balanced stat sheet with two players with six kills and three more with five. Rosie Aumann tallied a match-high 28 assists and Aubrey Ficek posted a match-high 16 digs.

The Huskies (9-13, 6-7 GLIAC) had a 21-20 lead in the opening set before GVSU's Betsy Ronda posted three kills to turn the momentum. The Lakers built a 13-5 lead in set two en route to the 25-13 victory. A Kendall Ward kill in set three brought the Huskies within 19-14, but that's as close as they'd get the rest of the way.

"I was very happy with the way we started the match and the maturity we played with throughout set one," said Tech coach Matt Jennings. "We had to make last-second adjustments to our lineup due to a few minor injuries, which allowed a few people to step up for the team.

"They (Grand Valley) are a fantastic team and make very few mistakes. We played pretty well at times, but were unable to sustain it over three sets."

Final hitting percentages showed a .281 for GVSU and a .094 for Tech. The Lakers also had a 6-to-2 advantage in blocks.

Michigan Tech, which has played just four of its last 17 matches at home, will be home for the final two weeks of the regular season. The next match is Tuesday (Oct. 28) vs. rival Northern Michigan. First serve at the SDC Gym is slated for 7 p.m.
