Wilmington Tennis Falls to #47 Grand Valley State to Complete IUP Tournament

AKRON, Ohio - - The Wilmington University women's tennis team completed their trip to the Mid East with a 5-0 setback to nationally ranked No. 47 Grand Valley State University at the Towpath Tennis Center on Sunday, closing out the IUP Tournament.

Playing in the best-of-five playoff format, the Wildcats (8-6) fell behind the Lakers, 3-0, following the doubles matches. The Lakers then won at number four and number five singles to warp up the match, 5-0.

The Wildcats' Milica Knezevic was leading her match when the contest was called, winning the first set, 6-1, at number six singles. Begona Gomar and her opponent were heading to a first set tiebreaker tied at 6-6 at number two singles when the match ended as well.

The Wildcats return to the east coast to wrap up their inaugural season, as they next play at East Region power Adelphi on Saturday. First service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in New York.
