Long ball hurts Dragons in doubleheader loss at Davenport

Tiffin University (22-23, 10-12 GLIAC) could not keep Davenport off the scoreboard, as the Panthers totaled 23 runs in 12 innings, sweeping TU 11-9 and 12-4 in 5 innings.

The Dragons had their best shot in the opener, a wild game that saw both teams combine for 27 hits. TU jumped out to a 4-0 lead early, then fell behind 9-4 before rallying to tie the game 9-9 in the 5th inning. Davenport won the game with single runs in the 5th and 6th innings, collecting two-out hits with runners on to score in both innings.

In the second inning, Chloe Swaisgood walked and Amanda Rock was hit by a pitch. Ally Rock then singled, scoring Swaisgood on an error by the catcher. After Libby Crow put down a bunt single, Brooke Lambert stroked a double for 2 RBI. Jamie Sevenish added a single for another run as TU jumped ahead 4-0.

In the third inning, the long ball started to hurt the Dragons. They scored three runs including a two-run HR, while DU plated 6 runs in the fourth inning with two home runs accounting for five of the runs as the Panthers jumped ahead 9-4.

TU staged a comeback in the top of the fifth. Alayna Lytle singled and Amanda Rock walked. Ally Rock then doubled for an RBI. Following a Crow walk, Lambert was hit by a pitch for another RBI. Lindsay Graves then tripled to clear the bases and tie the game 9-9.

In the seventh trailing 11-9, Crow reached again on a bunt single and Sevenish singled, putting two on with one out, but two strikeouts ended the game for TU.

Kimmy Reynolds pitched 4 innings and allowed 9 earned runs, while Faith Bogard finished up allowing 2 more runs to take the loss. Ally Rock had 3 hits with a double, while Crow also had 3 hits. Lambert had 3 RBI with a double, while Sevenish and Lytle also had 2 hits.

In the nightcap, the Panthers scored 5 runs in the second to jump ahead 7-1 and didn't look back. Leading 10-2 entering the 5th inning, TU managed to push two runs across but the Panthers responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame to end the game.

TU opened scoring in the first inning after a Crow bunt single and a Lambert double when Graves posted a sac fly as TU took a 1-0 lead.

Lytle drilled a solo home run in the 4th inning for TU's second run. In the 5th, Sevenish singled and stole second. Crow then singled and an error in centerfield allowed a run to score. Lambert then doubled for another RBI.

In the bottom of the fifth, a two-out single drove in two runs and gave Davenport a walk-off win.

Tiffany Snell took the loss, allowing 6 earned runs over 1.1 innings. Bogard once again finished up, allowing 5 earned runs over 3.1 innings. 

Sevenish, Crow, and Lambert all had 2 hits to lead TU.
