Dragons Fall to Nationally Ranked Opponents

The Tiffin University softball team faced two of the tougher opponents they will see all season, falling 11-0 to #13 Valdosta State University, and falling 9-1 to #17 Saint Leo.

Tiffin vs. Valdosta St.

Tiffin sent Tiffany Snell to the mound in game one, and she was greeted rudely by the Blazers. Valdosta State put nine runs on the board in the opening frame on four hits, five walks, a hit batter, and a Dragon error. Tiffin collected singles in the 1st and 2nd innings, but were unable to move the runners home.

In the 3rd inning, the Blazers added another run with a walk, stolen base, and a single to make it 10-0. The Dragons put a runner in scoring position in their half of the 3rd, as Kate-Lynn Urgo reached on an error, and moved to 2nd base on Libby Crow's single. Urgo was unable to reach the plate, as with two outs, Jamie Sevenish lined to shortstop to end the frame.

The final run for the Blazers came in the top of the 5th, bringing the score to its final tally at 11-0.

For the Dragons, Tiffany Snell took the loss on the mound, tossing 2 1/3 innings. At the plate, Tiffin collected five hits, with Libby Crow leading the way with a pair of singles.

Tiffin vs. Saint Leo

In game two, the Dragons faced the #17 Saint Leo Lions, and much like game one surrendered multiple runs in the 1st inning. Kimmy Reynolds recorded only one out in her outing, allowing four 1st inning runs on five hits, and two errors. The Dragons dented the scoreboard in their half of the 2nd, using a Samantha Ringwalt double to left center field and a Kate-Lynn Urgo RBI single to trail 4-1.

That would be the end of Tiffin's offense, as the Lions added five more runs over the final four innings, taking advantage of five Tiffin errors.

Tiffany Snell came on to pitch in relief, and did well, tossing the final 4 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, four runs, two earned, and fanned a pair. At the dish, Kate-Lynn Urgo finished 2 for 2 with an RBI, raising her batting average to .556.

The Dragons will play their final NFCA Leadoff Classic game tomorrow against Trevecca Nazarene at 11:30 AM.
