MIDLAND, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (10-9) advanced to the semifinals of the GLIAC Tournament with a 5-0 win over Tiffin (9-17) on Friday night at the Midland Community Tennis Center. The fourth-seeded Warriors took all three doubles matches and won at No. 1 and 4 singles to secure the victory.
WSU has won its opening match of the GLIAC Tournament in each of the past six seasons.
The duo of
Trey Keating (Troy, Mich.) and
Clement Charriere (Marseille, France) won 8-2 at the top flight of doubles.
Gopinath Menta (Hyderabad, India) and
Mohamed Fazyl Kechai (Paris, France) won at No. 2 doubles 9-8 (4), while
Ryan Carlson (Armada, Mich.) and
Harvey Reed (Winchester, Hampshire, England) edged their counterparts at No. 3 doubles 9-7.
At the top flight of singles, Fazyl Kechai won 6-2, 6-2 and Menta won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4 singles.
The Warriors will face top-seeded Ferris State on Saturday at 3:45 PM. WSU beat the Bulldogs 5-4 in the fall before falling 8-1 to FSU on April 12 in Big Rapids, Mich.
