Box Score
The Malone University women's basketball team earned a 50-38 victory over the visiting Lake Erie College Storm on Thursday evening in Malone's Osborne Hall.  A strong defensive effort by Malone allowed just 12 made field goals on the night for the Storm as the Pioneers improved to 8-5 overall and to 4-5 in GLIAC play.  Lake Erie fell to 2-9 overall and remained winless in the GLIAC at 0-8.

At three different times in the first half, Malone opened up a lead as large as eight points, the latest with 5:53 left in the first stanza at 24-16, but the visitors stayed close as they trailed Malone 26-21 at the intermission.

In the second period, Malone quickly jumped out to a 31-21 lead but the Storm would not go away just yet as they closed the gap again to 34-30 with 10:48 left in the game.  But the aforementioned defensive effort by the Pioneers took center stage down the stretch as Malone allowed just eight more points in that final 10 minutes to secure the 12-point, 50-38 win.

Guard Deborah Simmers paced Malone in scoring with 15 points and also grabbed six rebounds while guard Sydnee Penn also hit twin figures with 11 points.  Penn also contributed five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Guard Selana Reale tossed in nine points and dished out four assists in the contest while Logan Pastor dominated the boards for Malone with a career-high 17 rebounds.  Pastor also netted six points in addition to her team-best efforts in both assists (5) and steals (4).

Lake Erie was led in scoring by Kaeding Skelton who tallied 10 points while Ashar Harris pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds for the Storm.

While holding the Storm to just the 12 made field goals, on 52 attempts, for 23.1%, Malone tossed in 20 of 53 from the floor for 37.7%.  The Pioneers doubled up on the visitors with six made three-pointers, on 15 attempts, for 40.0% while Lake Erie sank just three, on 14 tries, for 21.4%. The Storm held the advantage in free throws, though, converting 11 of 19 for 57.9% to Malone's four of 10 for 40.0%.  In addition, Lake Erie also posted a slight 43-37 edge in rebounds.

Malone has now won three of its last four contests, with the lone defeat coming by just one point at Ferris State University (MI).  The Pioneers will be back in action again on Saturday when the squad hosts the #1 ranked team in NCAA Division II in Ashland University, which has a 16-0 overall record and a 9-0 GLIAC mark.  In addition, the Eagles have won each and every game by a double-digit margin.  Live stats will be available for this contest.
