DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (9-13, 4-6 GLIAC) swept Lake Erie (5-14, 1-9 GLIAC) on Friday night inside the Matthaei. The Warriors won by set scores of 25-23, 25-17 and 25-22. WSU has won back-to-back matches after a four-match losing streak. With seven of the final nine matches at home, where WSU has not lost this season, the Warriors will look to gain ground in the GLIAC standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lake Erie went on a 6-0 run early in the first set to take a 12-8 lead and force Tim Koth to take a timeout. The break seemed to calm the Storm's momentum and WSU came back to tie the set at 15-15 after a kill from Mikayla Shell (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington) and a LEC attack error. Lake Erie regained the lead 19-17 but after a Warrior timeout, WSU went on a 5-0 run to take a 22-19 lead. The burst included kills from Emily Norscia (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill) and Michelle Asiedu (Holland, Ohio / Springfield). The exciting set went down to the wire and LEC tied the game at 23-23 after taking three straight points but another pair of kills from Norscia and Asiedu sealed the 25-23 win for the home side.

- The Warriors controlled the second set 10-5 and eventually led 17-8 after a 6-0 run, which included kills from Hannah Moore (Louisville, Ky, / Assumption) and Hailey Richardson (New Boston, Mich. / Huron). The Storm were only able to trim the deficit to 21-17 before the Green & Gold captured the final four points to take a commanding 2-0 match lead.

- The third set was tight throughout. The two teams were tied at 10-10 but the Warriors created some breathing room with a 4-1 run to lead 15-12. WSU won the race to 20 on an LEC attack error and a kill from Shell extended the lead to 21-17. The Storm pulled within a point at 22-21 before the Warriors finished the match on a 3-1 run to win the third set 25-22.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
- Norscia posted a match-high 11 kills on 29 swings and just four errors. Asiedu, Moore and Shell each finished with eight kills.
- Maddison Smith (Melbourne, Australia) dished out 31 assists while Ellie Rodriguez paced the defense with nine digs.
