Oilers Split Series With Tiffin

The University of Findlay baseball team hosted Tiffin University on Sunday, April 17th to finish out the four game series.  The Oilers took game three 2-1 and the Dragons came away victorious 4-3 in the fourth game to even the series.  The split puts Findlay at 12-7 on the season and 5-9 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Game 1 W 2-1 (Box Score)

Junior Austin Rodesky picked up the win on the hill in the first game for the Oilers.  He pitched a complete game giving up one run on five hits with five walks, while striking out ten.  He now has 75 strikeouts on the season, which is a new school record.  The previous record of 72 was set in 1976 by Dave Warner.

Findlay picked up their two runs in the bottom of the second on a two RBI single by freshman Brian Cappiello after two walks put runners on.

The Dragons scored the final run of the game in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly.

Both teams registered five hits in the game.  The Oilers were led by Cappiello (2-for-3, 2 RBIs).  Freshman Derrick Herd, sophomore Pete Burkett, and junior Logan Harrah also picked up hits for Findlay.

Game 2 L 4-3 (Box Score)

The Oilers were out hit seven to six in the second game, but four costly errors proved to be the downfall for Findlay.

Tiffin picked up two quick runs in the top of the first for an early 2-0 lead, but the Oilers would get three of their own in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 3-2.  Cappiello singled in the inning, followed by a walk and two hit batters to score the first run.  With two outs, sophomore Cameron Johnson delivered with a two RBI single.

Sophomore Christion Smith and Herd singled in the third, but nothing would come of it.

The Dragons scored the final runs of the game in the eighth inning to bring the final score to 4-3.

At the plate in the second game, Findlay was led by Smith (2-for-3, RBI) and Johnson (2-for-3, 2 RBIs).
