Oilers Lose Doubleheader Against Grand Valley

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay softball team hosted a doubleheader against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) rival Grand Valley State University, which took place on Friday, April 24 at Anderson Field.  The Oilers lost the first game 5-3 and then lost the second game 3-0.  The doubleheader loss gives the Oilers a 25-19 record on the season, which includes a 13-10 record in GLIAC play. 

In the first game, Chelsea McManaway took the loss on the mound for the Oilers (14-6).  She gave up five earned runs and struck out thirteen batters in 6.2 innings of work. 

The Oilers held a 3-0 lead through six innings, then, in the top of the seventh inning the Lakers bats caught on fire as they scored five runs to claim a 5-3 victory. 

Lauren Trumpler had a big game at the plate for the Oilers as she finished with a two-run homerun and a single while Emily Stewart finished with a single and one run scored.  Katie Dunphy added a double and Hayley Apple also added a double in the contest. 

In the second game, Jenna Inman picked up the loss on the mound for the Oilers.  She gave up nine hits and three earned runs in five innings of work. 

The Lakers held a 3-0 lead through six innings.  The Oilers collected some hits for their comeback attempt in the seventh inning, but unfortunately fell just short as they lost 3-2. 

Lauren Trumpler finished the game with an RBI single while Katie Dunphy added a single and a run scored.  Brooke Scherger and Abby Funk both finished the game with a single. 

The Oilers return to the field on Saturday, April 25 when they host GLIAC opponent Ferris State University in a doubleheader at Anderson Field.  It is Senior day for the Oilers and Senior recognition will be at 9:30 a.m. with the first game slated to begin at 10:00 a.m.
