Volleyball Sweeps Malone in GLIAC Home Opener

Hannah Moore led WSU with 13 kills while hitting .323.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (6-9, 2-4 GLIAC) swept Malone (5-11, 1-5 GLIAC) in the GLIAC home opener for the Warriors on Friday night. WSU out-hit Malone .323 to .149 on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After two Pioneer errors early in the first set, WSU and Malone were tied 5-5 before a 5-0 run by the guests gave them a 10-5 advantage. WSU responded with a 10-1 run to regain the lead at 15-11. The rally included two services aces from Ellie Rodriguez (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Catholic Central) and three kills from Emily Norscia (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill). A WSU service error cut the Warriors' lead to 17-16 but the Green & Gold would control the rest of the set and win 25-20 powered by kills from Hannah Moore (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption) and Mikayla Shell (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington).

- Grace Frazee (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) gave WSU a 9-5 lead in set number two with a kill. Later in the set, WSU created some breathing room with a 7-1 run to increase its lead to 21-14. Once again, Wayne State was able to close the Pioneers out and take a 2-0 match lead with a 25-19 set victory.

- WSU led the third set 6-1 and never relinquished its lead the rest of the set. A kill from Norscia kept the Warriors on top 9-6. An 8-1 run, which included back-to-back block assists from Brittany Guldan (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) and Shell, put WSU up 18-9. Kills from Moore and Norscia down the stretch sealed the win 25-15 and completed the sweep.
