Klausing's Layup Gives Oilers 62-61 Win

Box Score

The University of Findlay women's basketball team came from behind to win in the final seconds during their 62-61 victory against Walsh University on Feb. 19 in Croy Gymnasium. The win gives the Oilers a 14-10 record on the season with a 10-10 mark in conference play.

The Oilers found themselves down 61-60 with only five seconds remaining in the game and had the length of the court to go. Senior guard Ciara Geiger then heaved a pass past half court to fellow senior guard Kristin Klausing, who raced in for the layup. Klausing was fouled on the play and missed the ensuing free throw, but the Cavaliers desperation toss at the buzzer was well short of the mark.

The Oilers only shot 38.3 percent (23-of-60) from the floor, but held the Cavaliers to a mere 35.8 percent (19-of-53) shooting clip. They also forced 22 turnovers and held a 28-12 advantage in the points in the paint department.

Geiger paced the Oilers with 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting. She also added four assists, three rebounds and three steals in the win.

Freshman guard Haley Horstman also reached double figures with ten points while Klausing, junior forward Margaret Wuebker and senior guard Nikki Gunning provided six points apiece.

The Cavaliers were led by Kelsey Funderburgh, who had 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.

The Oilers will hit the road to take on Malone University in their next game. The games is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. in Canton, Ohio on Saturday.
