Results

The Wayne State women's tennis team picked up its seventh win of the season on Friday as the Warriors defeated Lake Superior State 8-1. WSU (7-2, 6-2 GLIAC) won 13 of the 17 sets played between the two schools.

The match had to be moved from the WSU Tennis Courts to the Peachtree Tennis Club due to poor weather conditions.

Just as they had done nine other times this season, the No. 1 doubles team of Sharon Gill  and Milena Vuksanovic were winners in doubles play, defeating Lake Superior State's Adrienne DiVito and Carolyn Pumford 8-2.

In the closest doubles match of the day, McCall Monte and Kristina Goranskaya came away with an 8-5 win over Erin Wiethoff and Ingrid Pflieger in No. 2 doubles.

The No. 3 doubles pairing of Jennifer Bradford and Debora Correa recorded their team-high third shutout of the season Friday as the duo downed Katie Watchorn and Anais Molina-Rodriguez 8-0.

Goranskaya, the reigning GLIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, defeated Divito 6-3, 6-0 to pick up her first-career win in No. 1 singles competition. Goranskaya is currently enjoying a five-match winning streak.

The Lakers picked up a point in No. 2 singles when Pflieger beat Vuksanovic 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.

Monte defeated Molina-Rodriguez 6-2, 6-2 in the third singles flight to snap her three-match losing streak. Correa and Bradford swept fourth and fifth singles with 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-4 victories.

In her first match of the season, Meghan Luzod picked up a win by defeating Watchorn 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.

WSU has now won its last three matches against Lake Superior State.

The Warriors are slated to host Michigan Tech on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the WSU Tennis Courts. However, the match will be moved to the Eastside Tennis and Fitness Club (18201 East Warren Ave. Detroit, Michigan 48224) if weather conditions do not improve.
