First Half Shooting Exhibition Hands Pioneers Their Third Straight Victory

Box Score

The Malone University men's basketball team's (9-7, 7-5 GLIAC) offense was clicking on all cylinders in the first half Saturday as the squad stormed out to a 52-31 halftime lead en route to a convincing 84-74 home victory over Ohio Dominican University (4-12, 2-10 GLIAC).

The Pioneers unselfishness on the offensive end led to wide-open look after wide-open look early, while three-point shooters Vince Kazmierczak, Christian Graves and Isiah Elliott made sure the only thing cold was the freezing temperatures outside of Osborne Hall.

Malone shot 22-32 (68.8%) from the field in the first half and 6-9 (66.7%) from three-point range. On the opposite end of the court, Ohio Dominican only hit 36.4% of their shots and 3 of 13 (23.1%) from three.

Malone opened the second half with the same efficiency on offense that it displayed in the first, setting the tone for an anti-climatic second half. Although a late run from Ohio Dominican closed the final deficit to 10, the outcome was never in doubt during the final 20 minutes.

Five Malone players reached double-digits in scoring, while eight players scored at least five points. Elliott led the charge with 18 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Cory Veldhuizen dropped 13 points, while also hauling in seven boards, and six assists, while fellow big Brian Stone added 11 points and eight rebounds. Kazmierczak also added 14 points and senior Daniel Wise notched 10 points and five rebounds.

For the contest Malone finished 55.9% from the field and 52.9% from three-point range. Ohio Dominican was a much more modest 43.1% from the field and 32.1% from deep.

Malone will try to run their win streak to four when they travel to Michigan to face Hillsdale College on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 8:00 pm.  Fans can listen to Thursday's game live on the Malone Sports Network (radio broadcast on ESPN 990 AM and streaming live at www.espn990.com).  Live stats will also be available at http://livestats.prestosports.com/hillsdale/
