Volleyball Drops Match at Findlay

WSU will host its Senior Day match on Saturday against Walsh at 2 p.m.

FINDLAY, Ohio -- The Wayne State University volleyball program (18-8, 9-5 GLIAC) traveled to Findlay (18-7, 11-3 GLIAC) on Tuesday night and the Warriors fell in three sets.  Wayne State remains just one win shy of matching its most wins in the last 17 seasons (19 wins in 2009).  The Warriors have three matches left in the regular season and three wins will likely secure a home GLIAC Tournament match on Nov. 16th.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The opening set was tied at 3-3 after a Michelle Asiedu (Holland, Ohio / Springfield) kill and a UF attack error.  The Oilers extended their lead to 11-6 before WSU tied the game at 15-15 after a point from Avery Punches (Rockford, Mich.) and a Findlay attack error.  The Oilers won six of the final seven points to win the first set 25-21.

• Findlay led the second set 7-1 and eventually 11-5.  Another Asiedu kill and a combo block from Asiedu and Hailey Richardson (New Boston, Mich. / Huron) trimmed UF's lead to 17-13.  However, a 3-0 run by the home squad slowed WSU's rally and gave the Oilers a 20-13 advantage.  The Green & Gold stormed back to trail by two at 22-20.  The rally including a service ace from Madison Kielty (Plymouth, Mich. / Canton).  Findlay captured the final three points to win 25-20.

• A Karen Sidge (White Lake, Mich. / Howell) ace gave WSU a 4-3 lead in the third set.  A block by Mikayla Shell (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington) and Brittany Guldan (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) kept the Warriors ahead by a point, 8-7.  WSU led 13-12 after another block and the set was tied at 15-15 following a kill from Emily Norscia (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill).  WSU would not lead again but did cut the deficit to one at 21-20.  The Oilers would go on to win the set 25-22 and complete the sweep.
