Hot Shooting Powers Men's Basketball Past Kentucky Wesleyan

All five starters finished with at least 10 points.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (1-1 Overall) concluded the GLIAC/G-MAC Challenge on Sunday afternoon with a 90-65 win over 24th-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan (1-3 Overall).  All five starters finished with at least 10 points as WSU scored 90 points for the first time since Dec. 7, 2013, in a 90-85 win over Ohio Dominican.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Latin Davis, Jr. (Ypsilanti, Mich. / Milan) tied the game at 5-5 early in the first half with a free throw, which began a 13-0 run, giving the Warriors a 17-5 lead.  Marcus Moore (Lansing, Mich. / Waverly) capped the rally with a triple at the 14:46 mark.  The Panthers responded with an 11-2 run to trim the home lead to two at 19-17.  Chuck Key (Detroit, Mich. / Cass Tech) began to impose his will in the paint with back-to-back buckets for the senior forward pushed WSU's lead to 27-19 with 5:37 to play before halftime.  The momentum stayed with the Green & Gold the rest of the stanza as WSU outscore KWC 17-10 during the final five minutes to enter the locker rooms with a 46-29 advantage.  Ronald Booth (Detroit, Mich. / Consortium) ended the stanza with a 35-foot off-balance buzzer-beater.

- It was more of the same to begin the second half as the lead grew to 22 on a layup from Key at the 14:30 mark.  E.J. Haralson (Belleville, Mich. / University Prep Academy), Marquel Ingram (Detroit, Mich. / Pershing) both made their WSU debuts during the final minutes of the half.  The deficit would not go below 13 the rest of the way as WSU cruised to a 90-65 victory.

HOT-SHOOTING
- The 62.7 (37-for-59) percent shooting performance by the Warriors was the best since the Nov. 12, 2016 contest against Alderson Broaddus when the Warriors shot 63.8 percent (30-for-47).  WSU collected 34 of its 90 points in the paint or nearly 40 percent.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
- Key tallied a game-high 22 points on 11-of-16 shooting to go with his six rebounds.  Booth notched 18 points, while George Spencer (Detroit, Mich. / Belleville) collected 14 points and David scored 13.  Moore finished with 11 points, six rebounds and four assists to round out the Wayne State starters.

LEADING THE PANTHERS
- Amir Warnock scored 14 points to lead four Panthers in double figures.

UP NEXT
- WSU will host #3 Bellarmine on Tuesday, Nov. 21 inside the Matthaei with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
