Women's Tennis Falls In Close Match Against Milwaukee

The Warriors fell 4-3.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- In a hard-fought series of matches, the Wayne State women's tennis team (4-3 overall) came up just short agains Milwaukee( 3-4 overall), dropping the match 4-3.  

SINGLES
Marta Komar (Inoroclaw, Poland) played strong at No. 2 doubles, posting a 6-3, 6-3 win. 

Suki Mandair (Dexter, Mich. / Ann Arbor Skyline) had the other singles win for the Warriors, collecting a 6-3, 6-3 victory. 

Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France) battled at No. 1 singles, but fell 3-6, 6-3, 4-6. 

Laura Cazacu (London, England) also had a hard-fought match, but she was upended 6-2, 4-6, 6-7 (4). 

Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) saw her match go three sets as well, but she was defeated 6-2, 4-6, 3-6. 

Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.)l fell in her No. 6 singles match, 1-6, 0-6. 

DOUBLES
The Warriors were strong in doubles, collecting a pair of wins to take the point. 

Ruyssen and Komar teamed up to win 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Mandair and Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) collected a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Cazacu and Linda Liong (Sarawak, Malaysia) did not finish their match, as the Warriors had already won the point.

Another tough loss which could have gone either way down to the last singles match," coach Sheila Snyder said.  "We continued to take the doubles point against a tough opponent, but we need to find a way to finish down the stretch in singles.  Still battling through injuries, but improving every match.  I'm very proud of the entire team effort.  We never gave up and continued to compete until the very end."

UP NEXT
The Warriors have a long break before their next match, as they don't play again until March 10 against St. Thomas.
