Lakers surge past Dragons

The Tiffin University volleyball team dropped a conference match on Friday night, falling 3-1 to the Grand Valley State Lakers.

Set one was tough for TU. Tied early at 5-5, Grand Valley State scored 16 of the next 19 points to run away with a 25-10 set one win. Tiffin showed great resilience in set two, handing GVSU a taste of their own medicine. Tiffin, tied 9-all, scored 10 of the next 12 points to swipe set two 25-19. The Lakers nabbed the 3rd set, hitting at a .237 clip compared to the Dragons' .108. Set four saw the Dragons grab an early 7-4 lead, but the Lakers stormed back to tie the game at 10-10. Late in the set, the Lakers used three straight points to give themselves a five point lead, on their way to a 25-21 set win.

For the Dragons, Jenna Huffman compiled 11 kills, Danielle Hicks added eight, and Emily Weithman poured in 37 assists. Tiffin falls to 9-7 overall and 3-5 in GLIAC play. TU will finish off their weekend trip in Michigan, with a match tomorrow against Ferris State University.
