NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Wayne State University women's tennis squad improved to 2-0 overall after a 6-3 victory over Walsh in a GLIAC showdown on Sunday morning at the Klekotka Tennis Complex. The Warriors ended doubles with a 2-1 lead over the Cavaliers before sophomore
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) clinched the win in two-sets (6-2, 6-2) over Daria Bondareva at No. 3 singles.
DOUBLES RESULTS
- Senior co-captains
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) and
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) posted an 8-2 victory over Gabriela Laguna-Leon and Natalie Molnar at the third doubles flight. The win marks the duo's 22nd career doubles victory as a pair.
- Kuznetsova and sophomore
Liv Peisachovitz (Vaughan, Ont.) topped Sofya Logunova and Mercedes Fernandez, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles, while junior
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) and sophomore
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) fell, 8-5, to Bondareva and Victoria Ambrosio at the second doubles position.
SINGLES RESULTS
- Ciellza bested Ambrosio, 6-1, 6-1, at the fourth singles flight, and Walker garnered a two-set win (6-1, 6-1) over Molnar at No. 6 singles.
- Hughes beat Laguna-Leon (6-1, 6-7(6), 6-1) in three sets at the fifth singles position, while Ghellere dropped two sets (6-1, 6-1) to Fernandez at No. 2 singles and Peisachovitz lost, 6-0, 6-2, to Logunova at the first singles flight.

- WSU continues its four-match road trip to begin the 2016-17 season. The Warriors will compete against Findlay on Sept. 17 at the Russ and Peg Armstrong Sports Complex. The match is set for 10 a.m.
