WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (9-2) collected another split on Wednesday against Alderson Broaddus (6-5). The Warriors used a four-run second inning in game one to win 9-6 before the Battlers responded in game two with an 8-4 win.

Game One (W, 9-6)
Wayne State jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Chris Gebara (Troy, Mich.) RBI single to center field in the bottom of the first inning.

ABU pushed across two runs on two hits in the top of the second. Both runs scored on RBI groundouts.

The Green & Gold broke the game open in the bottom of the second inning with four runs on just one hit. ABU issued four free bases with three walks and a hit-by-pitch. Kyle Zimmerman (Frankfort, Mich.) drove home three runs with a bases-clearing double to give WSU a 5-2 lead.

The offense kept rolling in the third inning with two runs on three hits. Eric Cunningham (LaSalle, Ont. / St. Thomas of Villanova) gave the Warriors a 7-2 lead with a two-run single to left field.

ABU used two hits and two Warrior errors to trim WSU's lead to 7-4 in the top of the fifth inning.

The Warriors regained its cushion with two runs on three hits and a ABU error in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jeremy Carrell (St. Clair, Mich.) and Cunningham picked up RBIs in the frame.

The Battlers staged a comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh inning with two runs on a home run from Kirby Clemens before Clayton Ruch (Pemberville, Ohio / Eastwood) entered to collected his seventh save of the season and 17th of his career.

Ruch needs two more saves to match the program record of 19 held by Billy Hurley (2010-2012). Ruch is a save away from Jon Venuto's (1999-2002) second place mark of 18 saves.

Cunningham and Zimmerman drove in three runs a piece while Carrell, Cunningham and Zimmerman all picked up multi-hit games.

Kirk Stambaugh (1-0) was credited with the win, going two innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits with one punchout. Also appearing on the bump for WSU were starter Alex Kinch (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Pioneer), Christian Bilkovic (West Bloomfield, Mich.), Brandyn Hall (Sylvania, Ohio / Northview), Taylor Horn (Leo, Ind.) and Joey Hartfelder (Orchard Lake, Mich. / West Bloomfield).

Game Two (L, 4-8)
The Warriors were first to put a run on the scoreboard. Cunningham was able to score on a ABU wild pitch in the top of the first inning.

However, ABU scored three runs on three hits and a Warrior error in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead.

The Battlers added to its lead with three more runs in the bottom of the third inning, extending the lead to 6-1.

Spencer Church (Windsor, Ont. / Holy Names) doubled to right center field to begin the top of the fourth inning and eventually scored on a groundball double play to cut ABU's lead tp 6-2.

ABU pushed across two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on two hits, giving the Battlers an 8-2 advantage.

Church connected for a two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh with two outs but it would not be enough as ABU would collect the final out for the win.

Keaton LeBlanc (LaSalle, Ont. / St. Thomas of Villanova), Brock Bates (Delta, Ohio / Evergreen), Jeff Sorenson (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson), Chris Horvath (Windsor, Ont. / St. Anne Catholic) and Jimmy Jackson (Battle Creek, Mich. / Pennfield) all appeared for WSU.
