The University of Findlay women's basketball team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 68-63 win over Lake Superior State University on Dec. 6 in Croy Gymnasium.
The Oilers, who trailed for the majority of the game, tied the contest at 58-58 when freshman guard Haley Horstman connected on a short jumper in the lane. Lake Superior would regain the lead then before senior forward Lacey Kessler converted a three-point play to give Findlay a 65-63 lead with only 1:22 to play. The athletic play by Kessler was a turning point in the game as the Oilers held the Lakers scoreless down the stretch to pick up their first league victory of the year.
Junior forward Margaret Wuebker led the team with 19 points and ten rebounds while Kessler had 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win.
Sophomore guard Karli Bonar also reached double figures with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Junior forward Kelsey Lewis had a great game for Findlay off the bench with nine points on 4-of-4 shooting.
The Lakers, who made 11 three pointers in the game, were led by Kandace Crittendon and Megan Manninen, who each scored 14 points.
