The Malone University women's basketball team lost its GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athlete Conference) road contest to Grand Valley State University (MI) on Saturday by the score of 85-60.
The game was knotted 5-5 in the early going, however, the Lakers would take off from there. Grand Valley State went on a 16-2 run midway through the first half to take a 21-7 lead. The Lakers would finish the first half shooting 50% from the field. Malone closed out the opening stanza on a strong note by scoring 11 points in the final three minutes, but that was not enough as Grand Valley State led at halftime 48-26. Senior forward
Lindsy Snyder led the Pioneers with eight points, four rebounds, and three assists over the first 20 minutes.
Grand Valley State went on 4-0 run to start the second half to extend their lead to 52-26 at the 18:51 mark. The Lakers were consistent in the second half as they shot 50% from the field and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the remainder of the contest.
Leading the way for the Pioneers was Snyder who finished the game with 18 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Snyder hit six of seven shots from the field and all six of her free throws. Freshman
Alahna Singleton finished with 10 points, while
Kristen Massey and
Tara Schaffter each added eight points. Snyder is now ranked 25th on Malone's all-time scoring list with 890 career points.
Kayla Dawson paced GVSU with 20 points, nine boards and four steals.
The Pioneers will look to bounce back next week when they host GLIAC opponent Lake Erie College on Thursday, January 15th at 6:00 p.m. Â Â
