Screaming Eagles Clip Dragons

The Tiffin University women's soccer team dropped a heart breaking match on Thursday afternoon, falling 2-1 to the University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles.

The 1st half was a feeling out process for both sides, as it took a little over 30-minutes of action for the first goal to be scored. Southern Indiana struck first, slicing a shot past the Dragons' keeper to take a 1-0 lead at the 14:51 mark. Tiffin's offense struggled to get going in the opening half, firing six shots with none coming on goal.

At the half, the Screaming Eagles held an advantage in shots 8-6 and corner kicks 4-0.

Tiffin's offense began to pick up the pace in half number two, tying the score just 10-minutes into the half. Svetlana Gudenkova headed a pass from Leanne Tobin into the back of the net at the 55:13 mark to bring the teams even at 1-1. Tiffin's defense dug in and held the Screaming Eagles at bay with Samantha Ortenzi facing 10 shots in the 2nd half.

Southern Indiana's offense broke through with a little over 17-minutes remaining, heading a shot past a diving Ortenzi to take a 2-1 lead. The Dragons offense went cold down the stretch, being held without a shot for the final 20-minutes of action.

At the final horn, the Screaming Eagles held a 18-12 advantage in shots and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Gudenkova netted the lone goal for Tiffin, with Leanne Tobin collecting the assist. The Dragons will be back in action on Saturday, taking on Illinois-Springfield at 3:00 pm at the University of Findlay.
