Box Score 2 The Malone University volleyball team posted another 1-1 mark in two matches during the second and final day of competition at an Indiana University of Pennsylvania event on Saturday.
In the opening match of the day, Malone lost a five-setter to the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown 25-20, 14-25, 25-18, 20-25, 17-25 but then rebounded to post a four-set victory over host IUP 25-18, 16-25, 25-15, 25-20. With the 1-1 record on the day, Malone now stands at 2-2 overall for the season.
In the opening match, outside hitters
Sarah Brent and
Shelbi Meek drilled a team-best nine kills in the contest while outside hitter
Taylor Slauterbeck followed with seven more. Outside hitter
Anna Hays tossed in five service aces while setter
Jordan Sollars offered up 18 assists for the squad. For the Pioneer defense,
Haley Kool racked up a team-high four solo blocks and seven block assists. In addition, defensive specialist/libero
Katie Hasebein collected 18 digs for the team.
In the Pioneers' final match of the event, Meek rocketed 13 kills to lead the offensive attack while Hays and Kool tallied eight kills apiece. In addition, Sollars pocketed 23 assists while teammate
Lindsay Ulfig dished out 19 assists for the match. Hasebein also made substantial contributions with 26 digs.
Malone will be back in action on Tuesday, September 9th when the team will compete in its home opener against Ursuline College in a 7:00 p.m. match.
