Softball Held Scoreless Twice in Doubleheader Against Wayne State

The Malone University softball team lost both games on the road to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent Wayne State University (MI) on Sunday by the final scores of 2-0 and 13-0.

The Pioneers continue with conference play on Tuesday, April 14 against Northwood University (MI) at 3:30 p.m. The games will be played at Marathon Diamonds, the home field of the University of Findlay in Findlay, OH.

Game One Recap

It was the battle of the defenses in game one as neither team would notch a run until the bottom of the fourth inning when Wayne State tallied a score to take the 1-0 lead.

The Warriors would score again in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal the 2-0 victory.

Stephanie Byrne was the only player for the Pioneers to register a hit in the game.

Pitcher Shealynn Zimnick (0-1) hurled all six innings in the circle for the Pioneers.

Game Two Recap

Wayne State started the game with nine runs in the top of the first inning to take a commanding lead.

The Warriors would score two runs in the top of the fourth and two in the top of the fifth to take the 13-0 win in five innings.

Alexa Holztrager and Stephanie Byrne both went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead the Pioneer offense.
