DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (3-1 overall, 2-0 GLIAC) upended visiting Ohio Dominican University (3-3 overall, 1-1 GLIAC) 90-85 Saturday afternoon at the Matthaei.

The Warriors led 42-40 at intermission as the squads combined to make 34 field goals in the first half (18 for WSU, 16 for ODU) and have just one turnover for each team.  WSU shot 50 percent (18-of-36) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, while the Panthers connected on 49 percent (16-of-33) of their shots.  ODU's Mark Minch totaled 16 points in the first half, while Warrior seniors Bryan Coleman (Southfield, Mich. / Lathrup) and Chene Phillips (Detroit, Mich. / Renaissance) had 13 and 10 points, respectively at the break.

Despite the offensive outburst before halftime there were only two ties (26 and 40) and one lead change (WSU taking a 27-26 lead after trailing for the first 13 minutes of the game).  Ohio Dominican led by 10 (24-14) just past the mid-point of the first half before the hosts answered with a 16-2 run over the next four minutes with Coleman leading the charge with seven points during the spurt.

The second half was a much different story with four ties in the first 5:15 (42, 44, 51 and 53), before Wayne State went on a 7-3 run to open a four-point margin on a triple by sophomore Gavin Toma (Troy, Mich. / Southfield Christian).

After the Panthers cut the Warrior advantage to two (60-58), WSU responded with an 11-0 run over the next three minutes increasing its lead to 13 (71-58) with just eight minutes left.  Phillips scored seven points during the spurt while sophomore Michael Lewis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) tallied the other four points.

Over the next 5:30, Ohio Dominican whittled away at the Warrior lead pulling within five (75-70), but Coleman drained two triples sandwiched around a Panther three-pointer then Phillips grabbed a defensive rebound and Colemand converted a pair of free throws at the offensive end establishing a 10-point magin (83-73) with 1:09 left.

ODU made three triples in the final 28 seconds included an uncontested one by Minch just before the final horn sounded to complete the scoring.

Phillips finished with a game-high 29 points (10-of-14 FG, 9-11 FT) along with a team-best eight rebounds.  Coleman chipped in with 25 points including a game-best three triples.  Toma tallied 16 points and had five offensive rebounds.

MInch led ODU with 26 points to pace four Panthers in double figures.  Trent Weaver totaled a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.

Wayne State will play its final non-conference game of the regular season on Wednesday as Kalamazoo College will visit the Matthaei for a 7 p.m. tip.
