It was a tough GLIAC opener for Tiffin University (2-3, 0-1 GLIAC), as 20th-ranked Grand Valley State held a dominating edge in draw controls to outpace TU 20-10.

The game was close early, as the two teams stayed within a goal of each other for most of the first 20 minutes. But the tide seemed to turn when TU's Elle Hamilton, with three goals scored in the first 10 minutes, landed her second yellow card with 14:43 to play in the second half. The momentum shift gave the Lakers a boost, as they outscored TU 5-1 over the final 10 minutes and took a 10-6 lead into the intermission.

The second half was all Grand Valley, as they used a 13-1 edge in draw controls to lead to a 20-8 shot advantage over the final 30 minutes. The Lakers scored 6 goals in the first 8 minutes to push their lead to 16-6 at the 22:19 mark.

TU tried to claw its way back, as Elle MacMillan scored a couple goals to pull TU back within 8 goals, but the Dragons continued to struggle with the draws as the Lakers held control.

Overall GVSU held a 37-20 shot advantage and a huge 23-8 edge in draws. 

MacMillan led the Dragons with 4 goals and 5 draws. Hamilton had 3 goals, while Maddy Batley had 2 goals and an assist. Tiffany Anderson had a goal and assist along with 3 caused turnovers and 3 ground balls. Amanda Flotteron had 2 assists and Amie Morrison also had an assist.

Kat Schneeberger took the loss in goal, making 12 saves over 60 minutes.
