The Malone University baseball team dropped both games of its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader at Tiffin University on Saturday afternoon, falling 2-1 in the opener and 8-1 in the finale.

The Dragons improved to 15-14 overall and 9-5 in the GLIAC following the pair of victories while the Pioneers slipped to 9-18 overall and 2-12 in conference play.

The two squads will wrap up their three-game weekend series with a single, nine-inning contest at noon on Sunday.  Live stats will be available during the game at http://dragonweb.tiffin.edu/livestats/xlive.htm

Game One Recap
Malone grabbed an early 1-0 advantage in the opener, scoring in the top of the first inning with a bases-loaded walk by first baseman Logan Gray.

Unfortunately for the Pioneers, Dragon starting pitcher Nick Rodesky settled in over the next six innings, allowing just two base runners the rest way via a fourth-inning double by rightfielder Michael Chack and a sixth-inning walk by catcher Hayden Mobley.

Tiffin got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when leftfielder Cole McCurry drove a two-out RBI single to left-center.  The score then remained deadlocked at 1-1 until the bottom of the seventh.  The Dragons got the frame started with a lead-off single by third baseman Jordan Stum.  A sacrifice bunt then moved pinch runner Darrell Wynkoop to second.  The Pioneers intentionally walked the next batter of the inning before pinch hitter Brock Mitchell drew a walk to load the bases.  McCurry then stepped to the plate and drove in the winning run with an RBI fielder's choice.

Rodesky went the distance on the mound for TU, improving to 3-1 on the year after limiting the Pioneers to one run on two hits.

Left-hander Alex Haines worked the first 6.1 innings for the Pioneers, suffering the loss (2-3) despite giving up just two runs (one earned) on four hits.

Game Two Recap
The Dragons opened the scoring in the finale with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Malone cut the deficit in half in the top of the third as second baseman Bryce Miller smacked a one-out single through the left side of the infield and then came all the way around the score on a double to center by designated hitter Bob Suitca.

Tiffin tacked on an unearned run in the bottom of the third and then pulled away with a four-run fourth, utilizing four base hits and two Pioneer errors to increase its lead to 7-1.

In all, Malone committed nine errors in the contest, leading to five of the Dragons' eight runs being unearned.  Tyler Whitlach started on the mound for the Pioneers and suffered the loss (2-3) after working the first five innings.

Erik Klepper tossed all seven frames for Tiffin, improving his record to 2-3 on the season after surrendering one run on four hits while striking out six.

Suitca paced the Pioneer offense, posting two hits in three at-bats, including the RBI double in the third inning.
