Baseball Wins 7-3 at Findlay

The Warriors have won four straight games heading into league play.

FINDLAY, Ohio -- The Wayne State University baseball program (13-5) played another non-conference tune-up at Findlay (9-15) on Tuesday afternoon and the Warriors won 7-3 behind a three-run first inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Jacoby Dale (Roseville, Mich.) reached via a hit-by-pitch in the top of the first inning and stole second base.  Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich.) gave WSU a 1-0 lead with an RBI single just inside the first base bag.  Michael MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Country Day / The Lawrenceville School) followed with a single before Jacob Finkbeiner (Saline, Mich.) made it 3-0 with a two-run single into center field.  The Oilers got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, aided by two hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch.

Finkbeiner extended the Green & Gold advantage to 4-2 with an RBI single into left field in the top of the third inning.  Dale and MacLean had singles to setup the scoring play.

Findlay added a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning.

In the top of the fifth inning, WSU used three hits and an error to score two runs, taking a 6-3 lead.  Chris Tanderys (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) drove in a run with a double and Finkbeiner collected his third and fourth RBI of the game.

Brennan Cox (Taylor, Mich. / Riverview Gabriel Richard) and the Warriors used a 6-4-3 double play to escape a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth inning, keeping their three-run lead intact.  The Oilers continued to get runners on with two hits in the seventh inning but were unable to push any across.

After Ryan Foley (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Saline) was plunked and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, he moved to third on a wild pitch.  DeLanoy sent a double into left field, pushing the WSU advantage to 7-3.

Chad Sommers (Jonesville, Mich.) made quick work of Findlay in the bottom of the ninth to secure the victory.

AT THE PLATE
Finkbeiner had a solid day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, while DeLanoy posted a 3-for-5 performance with two RBI and two runs scored.

ON THE MOUND
Jimmy Love (Birmingham, Mich. / Seaholm) started and allowed two runs in his inning of work before Joey Muzljakovich (Mayfield, Mich. / Traverse City St. Francis) (2-0) struck out three batters over two scoreless innings.

Kaden Stively (Washington, Mich. / Romeo) was called on from the bullpen and limited the damage to one run on three hits in his inning in the mound. Ryan Korolden (Yale, Mich.) was next and worked an inning and a 1/3, while not allowing a run.  Cox posted a scoreless outing in his inning and 2/3 of relief.

Seth Marano (Canton, Mich.) worked a perfect eighth inning before Sommers set down his three batters in order in the bottom of the ninth inning.
