Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team's three game win streak was snapped today by Notre Dame College in a close 14-16 non-conference contest.
The Cardinals (winners of six of their last eight games) move to 8-5 on the season and stay at 4-1 in GLIAC conference play to remain in 2
nd place.
Leading the Cards in the stat column was
Olivia Krock who notched four goals on four shots while causing three turnovers, and
Danielle Kirby who added three goals and caused a pair of turnovers.
Paige Plesich,
Elizabeth Hales and
Shelby McClure each added two goals as well, while
Mary Burns rounded out the scoring for WJU with a single. Hales led all players with seven assists in the outing as well.
Maire Burns served all 60 minutes in goal for WJU, picking up 9 saves.
WJU suffered a slow start to the game, falling behind 5-0 in the first six minutes of the game before Krock and Hales scored in quick succession to close the gap to 5-2.
Later in the first half, WJU put in four more goals in quick succession to close the gap further. The last goal of the half came with 46-seconds left to play from
Shelby McClure when the Cardinals were a player up to bring the halftime score to 9-7 NDC.
WJU got on the board first in the second half early on when Kirby scored a goal assisted by Hales. NDC then put some distance between them and the Cardinals by rattling off three goals in a row to go up 12-8.
The Card refused to go away however, scoring five of the next seven goals to close the gap to a 13-14 NDC lead with just under nine minutes to play. The Falcons found the net two more times however before Kriby scored the final goal of the game and WJU was forced to walk away with the 16-14 loss.
WJU now travels to face Ursuline College in a GLIAC showdown scheduled for Saturday at 2pm in Pepper Pike, Ohio.
