Lewis topped Wayne State 74-72 on Saturday afternoon.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (0-3 overall) fell to Lewis (3-1 overall) on Saturday afternoon, 74-72.  The Warriors trailed by two at halftime and a last-second three-pointer by Antonio Marshall (Detroit, Mich. / Martin Luther King) rimmed out as the Flyers held on for the two-point victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Karim Murray (Detroit, Mich. / Western International) gave WSU a 7-4 lead with a layup at the 16:46 mark.  A dunk by Lewis' Frank Vukaj tied the game at 11-11 with 13:12 to play and a triple by Delaney Blaylock extended the visitors advantage to 21-16 at the 10:33 mark.  The Warriors trailed by six, 29-23, with 6:42 left before halftime.  A jumper from Murray and another two points from Javon Henderson (Detroit, Mich. / University Prep) trimmed the deficit to two, 29-27, at the 5:42 mark.  Latin Davis, Jr. (Ypsilanti, Mich. / Milan) found room for a 12-foot jumper to pull WSU within one and a free throw from Davis at the 3:02 mark tied the game at 31-31.  Marshall connected from deep to give the Green & Gold a 34-33 lead.  The Flyers led by four before a layup at the buzzer from Davis put the halftime score at 38-36.

Lewis opened the second stanza by scoring the first three points to stretch its lead to 41-36.  A three-pointer from Darian Owens-White (Ypsilanti, Mich. / River Rouge) brought Wayne State within two, 43-41, at the 14:25 mark.  However, the Flyers had an answer and led 49-43 following a bucket by Adam Pischke.  Lewis controlled much of the next five minutes, leading 58-49 with 8:31 left in the contest.  Back-to-back treys by Marshall and Davis cut the visitors' lead to three, 58-55, at the 7:47 mark.  Wayne State had the ball underneath its own basket with one second left on the shot clock and Owens-White found Davis in the corner for a clutch triple, trimming the deficit to three.  Xavier Cochran (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) sunk one of two from the charity stripe to make it 61-59 but Lewis was able to regain a six-point lead with 5:21 remaining. Two free throws from Owens-White at the 2:47 mark and Marshall's third three-pointer of the afternoon kept WSU close, 69-67, with 1:46 to play.  The Flyers connected on two free throws at the 30 second mark to take a 71-67 lead but Owens-White responded with a layup.  After two more free throws by the Flyers, Tristan Wilson's (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Skyline) dunk brought the Warriors within two, 73-71, with seven second left in regulation.  Lewis missed the first of two free throws to give the Flyers a 74-71 advantage.  Owens-White made the first of two free throws but intentionally missed the second and after a scramble WSU wound up with the ball on the baseline after it went out off of a Lewis defender.  Marshall's attempt from the corner found only iron as Lewis escaped with its third win in as many tries.
