Baseball Drops Weekend Finale

Wayne State out-hit Indianapolis 7-6 but lost 5-0.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (4-2) fell to No. 24 Indianapolis (6-2) 5-0 to conclude the Dunn Hospitality Invitational on Sunday afternoon.  The Warriors out-hit the Greyhounds 7-6 but were unable to overcome two errors and a four-run fourth inning by UIndy.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warriors looked to score first in the top of the second inning with two hits and a walk but Jack Schmidt (Fishers, Ind. / Indianapolis Cathedral) was thrown at home trying to score from second base.  UIndy answered with a run in the bottom of the second inning before extending its lead to 5-0 with four runs on four hits and a WSU error in the bottom of the fourth inning.

- Devin Rose (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Orchard Lake St. Mary's) double with one away in the top of the seventh inning and advanced to third on a groundout.  However, WSU was unable to push him across and get the Warrior son the scoreboard.  The Greyhounds kept the Warriors quiet the rest of the way to collect the shutout victory.

AT THE PLATE
- Schmidt and Griffin Harms (Bingham Farms, Mich. / Birmingham Groves) both turned in two-hit performances.

ON THE MOUND
- Addison Pawelek (Shelby Twp., Mich. / De La Salle) (0-1) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks.  He struck out three batters.  Hunter Brown (St. Clair, Mich. / Lakeview) continued his solid freshman season with three scoreless innings and struck out three batters, while not allowing a hit.  Nolan Dill (Bowling Green, Ohio) tossed a perfect eighth inning.

UP NEXT
- The Warriors will play four games in Cartersville, Ga. in the Perfect Game Tournament beginning on March 3 against UMSL before meeting Illinois-Springfield for three games.
