Lacrosse Dispatches Alderson-Broaddus for Big Win

Box Score Millersville, Pa. - Five different Marauders netted hat tricks in the Millersville women's lacrosse team's 25-2 home opening win over Alderson-Broaddus on Tuesday afternoon.

Millersville (2-0) has now outscored the Battlers 48-3 over the past two meetings. The Marauders had 11 different players score and the defense surrendered only three shots. Hannah Vogel led the Marauders with five goals while freshman Jaime Damirgian and senior Brooke Fisher totaled four goals each. Newcomer Renee Landis scored three goals and has registered a hat trick in each of her first two collegiate games. Sophomore Ella Callahan was the other player to record a hat trick for the home team. Goalkeeper Kaitlin Crouthamel blanked the Battlers in 30 minutes of action for her second victory in as many tries.

Alderson-Broaddus (1-2) was unable to score in the first half but connected on two goals in the final period. Cynthia Rice ended the scoreless streak for the visitors with her free position goal just over eight minutes into the second half. Teammate Chanel Nkounkou scored with under four minutes remaining in the game to net the Battlers only other score.

The Marauders controlled the game from start to finish. Millersville led 4-0 after 10-minutes of play and doubled their lead to 8-0 just three minutes after that. Vogel scored four of her first five goals in the first period and helped the home team open up a 15-0 lead at halftime.

The Black and Gold registered five goals in the first 10 minutes of the second frame and used Damirgian's three second period goals to cruise to the 25-2 victory.

Millersville totaled 51 shots in the contest, the most the Marauders have taken in a single game since April 22, 2007 against Slippery Rock (56).

A key to the big win was Millersville's ability to control possession. The Marauders had a 28-1 advantage in draw controls and possessed the ball for the majority of the match. The Black and Gold's 28 draw controls are the most in program history since women's lacrosse changed from faceoffs to draw control stats in 2008.

The defense was also crucial to the success in the home opener. Millersville's defensive unit held the Battlers to just six successful clears on 27 attempts--a .222 clear percentage.

Millersville is now 8-2 in its last 10 home games and has started the season 2-0 in three of the past four years.

The Marauders travel to Converse this Saturday, March 15 and take on the Valkyries at 3 p.m.
