ORLANDO, Fla. – The Wayne State University women's tennis team (14-4 overall) won its second straight contest in as many days Saturday, defeating St. Cloud State (2-12 overall) 8-1 at the USTA Florida venue.
Junior Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia), freshman Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont. / Robert Bateman S.S.), freshman Linda Liong and freshman Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) all won twice for the Warriors.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Kuznetsova and Da-Silva remained paired up for an 8-0 win over Fernanda DosSantos and Sommer Kopff in the first slot.
In the second flight, seniors Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) and Andreea Mitrache (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren Cousino) earned an 8-4 victory over Sam Fitzpatrick and Melissa Nierenhausen.
The final flight was claimed by Liong and Douglas, who defeated Ann Marie White and Emma Hanegraaf (8-1).
SINGLES RESULTS
Kuznetsova made her spring debut at No. 1, winning 6-0, 6-0 over DosSantos.
Da-Silva defeated Nierenhausen 6-1, 6-0 in the second flight.
At No. 4 Liong faced Hanegraaf and won 6-0, 6-2.
Douglas claimed a point at No. 5, defeating Kopff (6-0, 6-0).
Junior Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont. / St. Anne's S.S.) also won 6-0, 6-0 over opponent Abby Scheck.
For St. Cloud State, Fitzpatrick claimed the lone win at No.3, defeating Ghellere 7-6, 4-6, 10-4.
UP NEXT
Wayne State will take a brief break on Sunday before jumping right back into action for its fourth match in five days Monday. The Warriors will travel to Saint Leo, Fla. to take on the host Lions at 11 a.m.
