DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's basketball program (3-1) closed out its non-conference slate with a 74-70 overtime victory over Lewis (2-4) inside the Matthaei on Saturday for its third straight win. The Warriors led 27-24 at the break but the Flyers tied the game with one minute to play in regulation, forcing overtime, where WSU outscored the visitors 15-11. The teams have met each of the past seven seasons and Saturday's victory breaks a three-game losing skid in the series.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wayne State held Lewis scoreless for the first five minutes of the first half and led 5-3 at the 14:37 mark. Lewis controlled much of the next 10 minutes until
Marcus Moore (Lansing, Mich. / Waverly) tied the game at 19-19 with a three-pointer at the six-minute mark.
Clark Bishop (Detroit, Mich. / Renaissance) put WSU on top 22-21 and the Green & Gold would not trail the rest of the half. A layup from
Chuck Key (Detroit, Mich. / Cass Tech) at the end of the opening half made the halftime score at 27-24.

Ronald Booth (Detroit, Mich. / Consortium) knocked down a triple early in the second half to give WSU a 30-26 advantage.
Michael Lewis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) gave the Warriors a six-point lead, its largest of the half, with a two-point bucket at the 13:18 mark of the second half. The home side led until a Lewis trey tied the game at 48-48 with eight minutes left to play. Another triple from Booth at the four-minute mark gave WSU a 57-52 lead. However, the Flyers ended the stanza on an 7-2 run to tie the game at 59-59.
- Lewis struck first during the extra period and extended its lead to three with a triple at the 4:13 mark. After another Flyers' basket, the Warriors regained the lead on a Bishop layup with 3:29 remaining. Miles Simelton of Lewis gave his team a one-point lead at 66-65 but that would be Lewis' last lead of the contest. Moore connected on 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the four-point triumph.
OFFENSIVE QUARTET
- Booth led four Warriors scoring in double-digits with his 10th career 20-point game, finishing with 22 points. Moore notched his first collegiate double-double with 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Bishop finished with 17 points and Lewis added 10.
