DETROIT -- The 25th-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis squad (12-3 overall, 1-0 GLIAC) blanked Purdue Northwest (3-7 overall, 0-2 GLIAC), 7-0, in Detroit on Sunday.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Seniors
Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) and
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) notched a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles vs. Moritz Gisy and Joseph Kvint.
Sophomore
Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) and junior
Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) fell 6-4 in their No. 2 doubles match against Leon Kah and Dru Kennedy.
At No. 3 doubles, redshirt junior
Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) and freshman
David Solar (Prague, Czech Republic) claimed a 6-2 win over Mauricio Villacres and Jonluke Passett.
SINGLES RESULTS
Mertz was first off the courts after nearly sweeping his No. 4 singles match versus Passett (6-0, 6-1).
Vane was next to finish at No. 3 singles, notching a victory over Kvint (6-1, 6-3).
At No. 1 singles, Karcz went 6-3 in both sets against Moritz (6-3, 6-3).
Renaudie claimed a win in his No. 2 singles match after a close second set vs. Kah (6-3, 7-5).
Freshman
Donovan Nguyen (Troy, Mich. / Utica) nearly blanked his No. 5 singles match versus Villacres (6-1, 6-1).
Solar was last off the courts, winning his No. 6 singles match against Kennedy (6-2, 6-2).
