DETROIT -- The Wayne State University baseball program (15-15 overall, 5-8 GLIAC) hosted Tiffin (10-18 overall, 4-9 GLIAC) for the first of four games on Thursday afternoon and the Warriors were unable to slow down the Dragons as TU won 14-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Two hits and a walk in the top of the first inning allowed the visitors to take a 1-0 lead. Â The Dragons added to their lead with a two-run home run to right field in the top of the third inning.Â
Jacob Finkbeiner (Saline, Mich.) doubled home WSU's first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning and
JT Conti (Trenton, Mich.) tied the game at 3-3 with a two-run blast to left field.
- The momentum was quickly back in the visiting dugout as TU scored four runs on two hits in the top of the fourth inning to take a 7-3 lead. Â Two more runs in the fifth pushed TU's advantage to 10-3. Â The Green & Gold attempted to get back in the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with three runs on two hits. Â An RBI groundout from
Brad Baldwin (Troy, Mich. / Bishop Foley Catholic) started the scoring and a two-run single from
Michael MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Country Day) brought WSU within four runs at 10-6.
- However, that would be all the runs for the Warriors on the day as Tiffin stretched its lead to 11-6 in the sixth inning and eventually 14-6 with three more runs in the seventh inning.
AT THE PLATE
-
Patrick Adams (Detroit, Mich. / De La Salle) finished 2-for-5 and scored twice. Â Conti and MacLean both drove in a pair of runs.
