BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis squad (5-2 overall, 4-2 GLIAC) traveled to Ferris State (2-4 overall, 2-4 GLIAC) on Saturday and defeated the Bulldogs, 6-1.
DOUBLES RECAP
First off the court was number one doubles, senior
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and redshirt sophomore
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.). Â The duo won against Nika Hein and Silvia Verebes (6-3).
Sophomores
Tanja Skalda (Prien Am Chiemsee) and
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) fell short against Sam Stephenson and Nicole Meylor at three doubles (6-3).
Sophomore
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) and freshman
Laura Cazacu (London, England) earned the last doubles victory at the second flight against Bulldogs Amiena Houston and Isabela Paixao (6-4).
SINGLES RECAP
Da-Silva was first off the court at four singles after nearly sweeping opponent Patricia Martin Gomez (6-0, 6-1).
At three singles, Cazacu dominated in her match against Paixao (6-2, 6-1).
Liong was the next Warrior to finish at two singles, winning against Bulldog Verebes (6-2, 6-1).
At one singles, Kuznetsova had a close first set after going into a tiebreaker, but swept Hein in the second set (7-6(7-3), 6-0).
Freshman
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) took a win against five singles player Brittany Lavenant (6-3, 6-2).
Douglas was last off the court, falling short in her match against Meylor (6-3, 6-3).
UP NEXT
The Warriors travel to Allendale, Mich. tomorrow, Oct. 14, to take on the Grand Valley Lakers.
