Oilers Use 22-0 Run to Beat Panthers
The University of Findlay women's basketball team outscored Ohio Dominican University by a 44-20 margin in the second half to claim a 70-57 win over the Panthers on Jan. 15 in Columbus, Ohio.
Down 54-47 with 7:41 to play in the game, the Oilers went on a 22-0 run to erase the deficit and come away with another road victory in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. The run was fueled by sophomore guard Karli Bonar, who scored ten points during the stretch.
The Oilers, who are now 8-5 on the year with a 4-5 mark in conference play, shot 43.4 percent (23-of-53) from the floor and limited the Panthers to a 35.6 percent (21-of-59) shooting clip. They also forced 28 turnovers and came away with 15 steals in the victory.
Bonar led the team with 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting. She canned 4-of-7 attempts from three point range and also added two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Senior guard Nikki Gunning came off the bench to provide 12 points and four rebounds while senior forward Lacey Kessler chipped in eight points, four rebounds and four steals for Findlay as well.
Junior forward Kelsey Lewis and freshman guard Haley Horstman scored six points apiece while junior forward Margaret Wuebker and senior guard Ciara Geiger had five points apiece. Geiger also added five assists, three rebounds and three steals in the game.
The Panthers were led by Kacee Hockenberry's 14 points.
The Oilers will host Tiffin University on Saturday in their next game. The contest is scheduled to tip at 1 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
