CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- The Wayne State University baseball program (6-4) concluded the Perfect Game Tournament on Sunday with a 7-3 defeat to Illinois Springfield (7-3). WSU mounted a ninth-inning rally but the comeback attempt would fall short.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warriors put two runners on in the bottom of the first inning but were unable to create any offense and UIS would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
Tristen Jorah (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Sterling Heights Stevenson) produced an RBI groundout in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game. The Prairie Stars scored two runs on three hits in the top of the third inning, taking a 3-1 lead.
- A wild pitch led to a UIS run in the top of the fourth inning and the Stars added their fifth run in the fifth inning. Both teams were quiet until a UIS two-run home run stretched the deficit to 7-1 in the top of the ninth inning.
- In the final frame,
Patrick Adams III (Detroit, Mich. / De La Salle) sent a one-out double into left field and later scored on an error.
Sean Winkelseth (Ypsilanti, Mich.) plated WSU's third and final run of the night with an RBI single into right field.
AT THE PLATE
- Winkelseth led the offensive attack, going 3-for-5 with an RBI, while
Devin Rose (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Orchard Lake St. Mary's) and Adams III both finished with two hits.
ON THE MOUND

JT Conti (Trenton, Mich.) (0-1) started and pitched two and 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits and two walks.
Addison Pawelek (Shelby Twp., Mich. / De La Salle) allowed two earned runs over two and a 1/3 innings.
Nolan Dill (Bowling Green, Ohio) tossed a spotless three innings and struck out four batters, while
Tyler Tompson (Farmington, Mich.) pitched the final inning and allowed two unearned runs.
UP NEXT
- The Green & Gold will travel to Florida for its annual Spring break trip where the Warriors will play seven games in the RussMatt Invitational. The games start on march 12 against West Chester. WSU will also open the GLIAC schedule at the end of the trip with two games against Ohio Dominican.
