ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Wayne State University vollyball team (5-10, 3-8 GLIAC) fell in straight sets at Ashland (5-10, 5-6) on Saturday night. The Eagles won the sets by scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-23.
WSU led the opening set 21-20 before AU ended the game on a 5-1 run to take the set and the early 1-0 match lead.
Heather Weiss (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron) and
Hannah Moore (
Louisville, Ky. / Assumption) combined for back-to-back kills to trim the home lead to 19-18 but the Eagles took six of the last eight points to win the set.
A kill from
Emily Norscia (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill) in the third set cut the deficit to just one point but AU would go on a 4-0 run to take a 24-19 lead. The Warriors took four of the last five points but Ashland found the point it needed to win the match, 25-23.
Moore led the Warriors in kills with nine.
Brittany Guldan (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central) posted 23 assists.
Madison Kielty (Plymouth, Mich. / Canton) collected 11 digs. The Warriors hit just .131 compared to AU's .213.
WSU will await word on its opponents for next weekend's GLIAC/GLVC Crossover in Aurora, Ill. The Green & Gold will play three matches.
