Oilers Split Doubleheader Against Lake Superior State

The University of Findlay softball team split a doubleheader against Lake Superior State University on Saturday, April 12 at Anderson Field.  The Oilers claimed victory in the first game 7-6 while losing the second game 4-2. 

In the first game, Tawna Whited picked up the victory on the mound by striking out five hitters in seven innings.

The Oilers took a 6-0 lead through three innings and the Lakers threatened to comeback and tie the game in the seventh inning, but the Oilers thwarted their comeback and prevailed for the victory. 

Emily Reynolds lead the offense for the Oilers by finishing the game with two singles and three runs batted in.  Jackie Messersmith also paced the offense by adding a triple, a single and two runs batted in.

Emily Stewart added an RBI single while Tawna Whited also added an RBI single.    

In the second game, Nicole Motuza picked up the loss on the mound by giving up four runs in 4.1 innings. 

The Lakers took a 3-0 lead through three innings and the Oilers couldn't resume their game 1 showing with their offense. 

Courtney Dwyer led the offense with an RBI single while Megan Turner added a couple of singles and scored a run.  Tori Allen finished the game two singles and one run scored. 

The Oilers, who are now 14-11 on the season with a 6-8 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), will host Northwood University in a two-game set on Sunday, April 13 beginning at noon.
