Oilers Win in Final Seconds Against Walsh

Junior forward Taren Sullivan tipped in a missed jumper with one second remaining to give the University of Findlay men's basketball team an 88-86 win over Walsh University on Jan. 30 in Croy Gymnasium. The victory pushes the Oilers record to 16-5 on the year with a 10-4 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers built a 50-35 lead at the break and had an 18-point advantage with 17:01 remaining in the game. Walsh then fought their way back into the game, eventually tying the contest at 86-86 with 24 seconds to play. Findlay then held the ball for one last shot attempt before time expired, a three point try from junior guard Martyce Kimbrough, which was off the mark. Sullivan then soared above two Walsh defenders to tip home the game-winning bucket with only one tick left on the clock.

Findlay shot 54 percent (34-of-63) from the floor and made 14-of-27 (51.9%) shot attempts from behind the three point line in the win. The Cavaliers meanwhile hit 59.3 percent (35-of-59) of their shot attempts, which included a blistering 67.9 percent (19-of-28) shooting clip in the second half.

Kimbrough paced the Oilers with 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting. He connected on 6-of-12 three point attempts and also chipped in three assists during the game.

Junior guard Elijah Kahlig recorded 17 points and four assists while Sullivan finished the game with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Sophomore guard Trey Smith came off the bench to provide a career-high 13 points while senior forward Tyler Stern-Tucker had eight points, five assists and four rebounds in the win.

The Cavaliers were led by Zac Carter and Trey Fletcher, who scored 28 and 23 points, respectively.

The Oilers will remain at home to host Hillsdale College on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
