HOUGHTON, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (1-1 overall, 1-1 GLIAC) fell short 3-4 in their match against Michigan Tech (3-0 overall, 2-0 GLIAC) on Sunday.
SINGLES RESULTS
Senior
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) left the court with a win at one singles after a close third set against Ivona Gorgioski (6-3, 3-6, 6-4).
At two singles, freshman
Laura Cazacu (London, England) lost to Jessica Brown in a tight three-set match, including a tiebreaker in the first set (6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 2-6).
Sophomore
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) represented the Warriors at three singles, winning her match against Samantha Johnson (6-1, 6-2).
At four singles, sophomore
Tanja Skalda (Prien Am Chiemsee, Germany) earned the last WSU win for the singles flights, beating Vicky Quinde (6-3, 6-4).
Sophomore
Irena van Meer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) fell short against Mirna Golac at five singles (4-6, 2-6).
Playing at six singles, freshman
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) lost against Anabella Neri (1-6, 1-6).
DOUBLES RESULTS
Liong and Cazacu partnered up to play Gorgioski and Brown at one doubles, losing to the Huskies (1-6).
Kuznetsova and Skalda took on Johnson and Quinde at two doubles and lost (2-6).
Ending in a close tiebreaker, van Meer and Jewell earned a victory against Golac and Allenca Rolim (7-6 (9-7)).

The women's tennis squad will travel to Findlay on Friday, Sept. 28, to take on the Oilers.
