HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech suffered its first GLIAC women's soccer defeat of the season tonight with a 2-0 result against Ferris State at Sherman Field. The Bulldogs scored in the 44th and 71st minutes to improve to 6-7-2 overall and 5-4-1 in the GLIAC. The Huskies are now 9-2-1 overall and 7-1-1 in the league.

Tech generated a pair of quality scoring chances in the opening half with a Jacqueline Mielke header in the third minute that missed wide and a Jenna Proctor header off a corner kick that was saved.

It looked as though the teams would head to halftime scoreless, but FSU's Riley Wood chipped a shot from 20 yards out over Jenna Phelps' head for a 1-0 lead.

The Huskies took 11 shots in the second half including seven that were on target, but it was the visiting Bulldogs who got the next goal. Nichole Boehnke took a crossing pass and scored from the right side to the far post.

"Credit Ferris State," said Tech coach Michelle Jacob. "I thought they played very well and converted their chances.

"We are usually able to stay calm when we get behind, but I thought we got a little anxious and not able to keep possession when we needed."

Michigan Tech will try to bounce back on Sunday (Oct. 26) with its home finale against No. 10-ranked Grand Valley State. Game time is noon, and it will be Senior Day for three Huskies.
