Oilers Split Doubleheader Against Walsh University

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay softball team hosted a doubleheader against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent Walsh University, which took place on Sunday, April 19 at Anderson Field.  The Oilers lost the first game in a no-hitter 6-0 and then bounced back and won the second game 5-1.  The twin bill split gives the Oilers a 21-16 record, which includes a 9-7 record in GLIAC play. 

In the first game, Bonnie Zappitelli took the loss on the mound for the Oilers.  She gave up eight hits and struck out three batters in five innings.  Nicole Motuza pitched the final two innings of the contest and she gave up three hits and struck out two batters. 

Walsh held a 3-0 lead through six innings and then scored three more runs in the final inning as they delivered their final blow and claimed a 6-0 victory.

In the second game, Chelsea McManaway picked up the victory for the Oilers on the mound (12-5).  She pitched a complete game and gave up just three hits and struck out eleven batters.     

The Oilers jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the first three innings as they capitalized on their scoring opportunities.  The Oilers continued to take advantage of the scoring opportunities which led to their 5-1 triumph and proved to be a great bounce back victory after a rough first game in the two-game set.    

Katie Dunphy had a good game at the dish as she finished with a double, a single and two runs scored while Hayley Apple blasted an RBI double. 

Abby Funk also had a good game at the plate as she finished with a single and two runs batted in.  Lauren Trumpler added an RBI single while Megan Turner finished with a single and two runs scored.  Brooke Scherger added a single and one run scored in the contest.    

The Oilers return to the field on Tuesday, April 21 when they travel to Ashland, Ohio to face GLIAC rival Ashland University in a doubleheader.  The first game is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
